Thanksgiving in Prague

Hi Everyone,

As it turns out, Czechs are very interested in American culture, especially Thanksgiving, which has no local corollary. So I've been teaching about Thanksgiving in my classes and even showing some Thanksgiving cartoons, like A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Garfield's Thanksgiving. Some of the things that they ask for are funny. They want to know traditional Thanksgiving songs and movies. Well, they don't exist, which surprises Czechs, but that's just the way it is.

Initially, I thought that I would have to forgo a Thanksgiving dinner or find some way to prepare it myself, but, fortunately, my school enacted thoughts that I had only entertained. Tomorrow, on Thanksgiving, the school will have a huge Thanksgiving party all day long, with games, activities, and a short presentation on the history of Thanksgiving, which will be done by the native English speaking teachers, myself included. The best part is that, for lunch, the entire school will be going to a restaurant that will make us a Thanksgiving meal, so this is at least one year that I do not completely miss the American tradition. I also found a bar that will be showing the football games, I haven't decided if I will go to that, but I very well may, just to see the Cowboys.

In Memory of my Grandpa

My Grandfather died last Thursday and is funeral is today. I wish I could be there, but it brings me comfort to know how much he supported my decision to move to Europe and how happy and excited he was for me. Some of my family members have put up their own tributes, and you can find them here.
