Czech Cubism

I recently took a trip to the Czech Cubism Museum.  Cubism is an art movement started by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in the early 20th century.  The Czechs were early adopters of the movement and quickly developed their own style, which became known as Czech Cubism, and expanded the scope of the movement to include sculpture, architecture, and furniture making.  The museum is located on the third, fourth, and fifth floors of the House of the Black Madonna, the first cubist building built in Prague.  Enjoy the full gallery of pictures here.

My Parents Visit Prague!

Last weekend, my parents made Prague their first stop on their first European vacation.  They arrived on Thursday night, we spent Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday together, and they left on Tuesday morning.  At the end of the visit, my mom put it best when she said, "This would be sad if we weren't going to see you in a couple of weeks."

My parents arrived on Thursday evening.  They were tired from the long trip, so we had dinner at a restaurant very close to my apartment with my friend Luke and then let they got to bed early.

Friday might have been our busiest day.  We met Jirina, my business student and my mom's pen pal, in the morning for coffee.  From there, we went to Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square, Letna Park, and Vysehrad.

On Saturday, we began the day by having breakfast at Café Louvre, one of Prague's famous and historical cafés.  Then, we spent the day at Prague Castle, Little Town, and the Wallenstein Gardens.

On Sunday, we went to Charles Bridge and the Jewish Quarter, which took all day.  We didn't even get to see all of the synagogues before they closed.

Monday was our final day together.  I had to work in the morning, so my parents went for a run in Letna Park.  In the afternoon, we went to St. Wenceslas' Vineyards, which are near Prague Castle.  We had a glass of house wine before spending some time in Voja Park.  To finish the day, we had dinner at U Medvídku, a traditional Czech restaurant which was founded as a brewery in the year 1466.

Prague Gardens & More

This Saturday I visited some of the gardens and lesser known sights of Prague, including the Church of Our Lady of the Snow, the Franciscan Gardens, Charles Square, the botanical gardens run by Charles Univeristy, Zizkov, the Zizkov TV Tower, Sacred Heart Church, and the New Jewish Cemetery.
